Frequently Asked Questions
AlwaysOn Wi-Fi is an add-on service for Kinetic Fiber Internet subscribers who have an eero router. It provides a device with a backup cellular internet connection to your eero Wi-Fi router during an internet service outage. When you purchase this service, we provide you with a device that has a built-in backup cellular connection, and it connects via Ethernet cable to one of the Kinetic-provided eeros in your home’s Wi-Fi network. This device detects when your internet service is not working and switches to a backup cellular connection.
AlwaysOn Wi-Fi includes unlimited data with graduated speed management so you can use it for everyday internet tasks on devices connected to your Wi-Fi network. It’s like a backup generator for your Wi-Fi that keeps you connected during internet outages, and it automatically switches back to your primary internet when service is restored. The backup service is not suitable for use for emergency/911, medical, and certain other uses.* Your backup connection will provide internet connectivity until your fiber connection becomes available or your household uses your 100GB allocation of data, whichever occurs first. The 100GB of included data automatically resets at the first of the month. Unused data at the end of a billing period does not roll over to the next billing period, including in partial billing periods. The service will only work during an internet network outage at your service address.
AlwaysOn Wi-Fi instantly takes over during a network outage, so all your connected devices such as computers, thermostats, and security cameras stay connected to Wi-Fi. Unlike a mobile hotspot, it automatically reconnects to your fiber internet, and it doesn’t drain your phone’s battery.
AlwaysOn Wi-Fi includes unlimited data with graduated speed management so you are always connected.
Your device will come with installation instructions, including a QR code, to walk you through installation and troubleshooting. Note: Your devices must be charged and have an external power source to connect to backup internet.
AlwaysOn Wi-Fi should be able to connect to cellular coverage in almost all Kinetic Fiber areas. The device includes a cellular signal strength indicator. If you live in an area with a very poor or no signal, you may not be able to use the device. You should test the device for signal quality when you receive it. If you have poor signal quality, you can chat with support for help placing the device in a better location for a stronger signal. If the problem cannot be resolved, you may call us to cancel the service at no cost within 30 days of your order.
An internet outage occurs when your Kinetic Internet service is interrupted, but your home still has power. During an internet outage, the AlwaysOn Wi-Fi device uses a cellular connection to provide devices connected to your Wi-Fi network with access to the internet.
To use AlwaysOn Wi-Fi during a network outage, you’ll need:
An eero router
An active subscription to the AlwaysOn Wi-Fi service
Power to your home and your AlwaysOn Wi-Fi device
Available data
There’s no contract and you can cancel at any time. AlwaysOn Wi-Fi is billed at the start of your billing cycle and is not prorated if you cancel during the billing period.
