Kinetic, formerly Windstream Communications, was formed from the spinoff of Alltel Corporation's landline business and merger with VALOR Communications Group, Inc. in 2006.

Today, Kinetic provides fiber‑based internet, phone and related communications solutions to consumers, small and midsize businesses, and larger organizations, offering services across 18 U.S. states. Kinetic offers bundled services that can include fiber internet, security solutions, voice and select digital TV packages for consumers. For businesses, the Kinetic Business unit and related brands delivers fiber internet, business voice, unified communications and managed connectivity services tailored to organizations of all sizes. Kinetic delivers fast fiber internet to homes and businesses over local and regional networks that run on Uniti’s nationwide fiber backbone, which spans more than 200,000 route miles.

As of mid 2026, Kinetic has surpassed 2 million fiber premises passed across its 18‑state service area, and more than half of its customer base and revenue now come from fiber services.
